TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Three people, including a child, were airlifted to mainland hospitals following an overnight boat crash in the Florida Keys.

The center console boat was traveling at a “high rate of speed” around 2 a.m. on Monday when it crashed into the South Pine Channel Bridge, Monroe County spokesperson Kristen Livengood confirmed.

Seven people were aboard the boat during the crash.

Monroe County Fire Rescue was able to safely remove all seven passengers from the boat before the vessel sank.

The other four passengers were taken to local hospitals. The severity of the seven passengers’ injuries is unknown at this time.

Seatow and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the crash; however, the boat was still in the water on Monday morning.

The FWC is still investigating what led up to the crash.
