FARMINGTON (WWJ) — A Farmington department store is closed after a woman crashed her car through the front door Sunday evening.

The crash happened at the TJ Maxx Store on Grand River Avenue in Downtown Farmington around 6:20 p.m., according to the Farmington Police Department.

While the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation, officials say a 71-year-old woman lost control of her SUV and crashed into the store. The SUV came to a rest several feet inside the building, against a support column.

No serious injuries were reported and no one was taken to the hospital, according to police.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which caused significant damage to the entrance area of the store.

Several other vehicles in the parking lot area were also hit by the woman’s SUV.

Farmington Public Safety personnel responded to the scene quickly to assess the situation and ensure the safety of everyone at the store. The Farmington Hills Fire Department was also on scene to assist.

"We are thankful that no one was seriously hurt in this incident," said Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin. "Our officers are working diligently to determine the exact cause of the crash. We appreciate the cooperation of the driver and the assistance from the community during this time."

The incident is still under investigation and will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review at the conclusion of the report.

The TJ Maxx store, located on Grand River Avenue, just east of Farmington Road, will remain closed temporarily to allow for repairs and a thorough assessment of the damage. The Farmington Building Inspectors will coordinate with the building owners to ensure the structure is sound before reopening.
