Johnnie Cummins, age 79, of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary. Johnnie Jaqueline Stuard was born on June 24, 1945, in Eastland, Texas, to Robert Luther Stuard and Beulah Jackson Miller Stuard. She retired from Mansfield ISD in 2007. She enjoyed quilting, working in the yard, bingo, dancing and gambling.

(CHICAGO) The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 3.4-magnitude earthquake around Somonauk, IL. Somonauk is in DeKalb and LaSalle Counties, 64 miles west of Chicago.

Several Breckenridge residents were recently honored for their years of employment with Texas State Technical College. TSTC’s West Texas campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Sweetwater celebrated employees who have been with the college for one, five, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 40 years. They were honored during the summer employee appreciation day event held at the Sweetwater campus.

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will host a summer downtown shopping event next week that will also feature several activities for the whole family. During the Boomtown Summer Sale, scheduled from 2 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, a variety of businesses in downtown Breckenridge and beyond will be staying open later and offering special deals, including sidewalk sales and discounts.

The 90th Judicial District Attorney’s Office’s recently released the following list of cases that were pleaded in June 2024:. Etta Pauline Riley, 69, of Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and was sentenced to seven years Community Supervision and ordered to pay $500 fine and court costs; and pleaded guilty to another offense of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and was sentenced to seven years Community Supervision and ordered to pay court costs.

The Swenson Memorial Museum is hosting a fundraising drawing to give away a Blackstone griddle for outdoor cooking. Tickets for the drawing cost $10 each or six for $50.
