An online fundraiser has been established to aid residents displaced from their homes by a fire at a Bellefonte apartment house on Friday.

The GoFundMe page is supporting six residents of four apartments at 134-136 E. High St. as they seek new places to live and to replace belongings.

"I am hoping to raise funds to get the tenants into new housing, as many of us have no where to go and are staying with friends or family or at hotels," organizer Taylor Douglas wrote. "We also need to replace many of our belongings due to smoke and water damage."

Bellefonte fire companies were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. on Friday for a report of an electrical fire and found smoke coming from the third floor and attic of the building.

No one was injured in the fire.

Bellefonte's Undine and Logan fire companies were assisted by fire companies from throughout Centre County and Mount Nittany Health EMS on what was a hot and humid afternoon. A CATA Bus was also brought to the scene to provide a cooling station for firefighters.

Roads in the area of the fire were closed for several hours.

Centre Region Code Administration and a fire marshal responded as well. The American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania Region provided assistance to the displaced tenants.

Money raised from the GoFundMe will be evenly distributed among the displaced tenants, Douglas wrote.
