HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Excessive heat and humidity have led to extreme heat index values Monday afternoon across North Alabama.

The combination of dew points well into the 70s and temperatures in the 90s has created a dangerous environment for those spending time outdoors. With the threat of heat index values of 105 degrees for an extended period on Monday, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory until 7 p.m.

All counties in North Alabama are included in the advisory.

Heat index values this afternoon will range from 102 to 109 degrees in locations. While Southern Middle Tennessee is not included in the advisory it will still be extremely hot with the heat index nearing 100 degrees.

Make sure to drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Apply multiple layers of sunscreen, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and move indoors if you begin experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness.
