Dog Dispute Leads to Attempted Murder Charges for St. Croix Man

Perry County, IN – A dispute over a barking dog escalated into violence late Sunday night, resulting in the arrest of a St. Croix man on charges of attempted murder and multiple felonies.

Indiana State Police responded to a call at 11:50 p.m. on July 7 at a residence on SR 62, St. Croix. Tyler Richardson, 32, allegedly shot his neighbor, James Morris, 32, of Tell City, following a heated argument about Morris's barking dog. According to police reports, Morris, who was visiting family next door to Richardson, approached the property line during the argument and was shot by Richardson. Morris, who was unarmed, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Harrison County Hospital by relatives before being airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Richardson was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges, including Attempted Murder (Level 1 Felony), Aggravated Battery (Level 3 Felony), Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony), Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony), Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felony), and Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 Felony). He is currently held in Perry County Jail.

The investigation is being led by the Indiana State Police, with assistance from the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources. The Perry County Prosecutor was also present at the scene.
