The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department :

    • A 22-year-old man and 17-year-old girl came to the TCSD office on May 31 to report that a neighbor had hit one of their dogs with a vehicle near their Grandview Road residence near Houston and didn’t stop.

The pair told a deputy they had confronted the neighbor at Casey’s in Houston and things got heated. The girl said that later that night, the neighbor told her to get a chain or pen for their dogs, and threatened to hit them on purpose.

A deputy advised the two that they weren’t required to get a pen or chain, but they needed to keep their dogs out of the roadway. The officer also advised them that no crime had been committed.

    • A deputy was dispatched June 1 regarding a domestic dispute between a 74-year-old woman and 40-year-old man at an Airport Road residence at Cabool.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the woman, who said her grandson had her truck and she wanted it back. She told the officer that when she went to speak to him about it, he had yelled at her – but not hit her – and she was scared of him.

A short time later, the man drove up in a yellow Ford Ranger. The officer asked what had happened between him and the woman, and he said she was mad because he wouldn’t drop what he was doing and help her fix some things.

The man said he would leave the truck and go home.

    • On June 12, a deputy was dispatched to a Roby Road residence at Plato regarding a report of theft.

A 47-year-old woman there told the officer she had gone to Walmart to buy Apple gift cards for her brother. She said she purchased two cards, one for $500 and another for $400.

The woman said that when her brother went to get the funds off of them, it was gone. She said she called Apple and was told the only information they could give her was the time the money had been removed.

    There are no suspects.

    • A deputy was dispatched at about 11:40 p.m. June 29 regarding a report of arson at a Highway H property at Elk Creek.

The officer made contact with two men there who said they had seen a white Ford F-150 pickup with an orange LED light bar in its grill and green underglow lights speed away from the scene.

The following day, the 40-year-old Willow Springs man who owns the barn told the officer fire department officials had told him an explosion had occurred during the blaze. He said he had gutted the structure and was getting ready to remodel it, and there was nothing inside.

    Investigation is ongoing.

    • On July 4, a deputy was dispatched to a gas station on Highway 137 in Raymondville regarding a report of an assault.

The officer made contact with a 27-year-old woman there who said she and a 37-year-old man had been in an altercation and that he had sat on top of her and wouldn’t let her up, and she had trouble breathing during the incident. The officer observed that the woman had a deep cut between her fingers that had occurred during the fight, and that she was in pain.

When the officer asked if she would like EMS personnel to evaluate her, she said she would go to the hospital on her own.

The officer and woman then went to her Highway B residence, and the man was arrested. A probable cause statement seeking charges was sent to the county prosecutor.
