Toby Keith would have turned just 63 years old on Monday, July 8.  After a long battle with stomach cancer and certainly after putting up the fight of his life, Keith succumb to the disease in February.

His friends and family have been honoring and remembering him on his special day.

His daughter, Krystal Keith, shared just a brief message on social media remembering her dad. Proudly sporting an Oklahoma University t-shirt and holding a sticker that says "Keep Smiling" the late country music superstar is seen in the picture posted by his daughter. That's probably just exactly how she wants to remember him - on a day where he was healthy, happy, smiling and enjoying some relaxation.

"Happy Birthday to our Popster.  We miss him like crazy. Playin' it sweet in heaven today."

In honor of his birthday and in celebration of someone who inspired so many, here is a list of his top 10 songs.

    1. "Should've Been a Cowboy"

From his debut album in 1993, this song was his first No. 1 hit.  Keith wrote the song while on a hunting trip.  Keith watched a friend get turned down from a cowgirl who said she didn't dance, but then a short time later, a cowboy ask the same girl to dance and she gladly accepted.  Guess the friend, "should've been a cowboy."

    2. "As Good As I Once Was"

Keith co-wrote this song with Scott Emetic.  It was the second release from his 2005 album Honkytonk University .  Keith knew this song was special from the moment he got done recording it.

"I can always tell when I've got a special one as soon as I get done. If I hadn't come out with 'Honkeytonk U' first, I would have released this one.  It didn't matter the order, they were gong to be singles one and two."

    3. "I Wanna Talk About Me"

Written by Country Music Hall of Fame songwriter Bobby Braddock, this was a toe tapping hit.  The song released in 2001 combined elements of rap which made it one of the first examples of "country rap."  The upbeat song went all the way to number one on the Hot Country Songs chart and stayed there for five week.

    4. "How Do You Like Me Now?"

Released in 1999, this is one of Keith's most iconic songs.  Keith co-wrote the tune with Chuck Cannon.  The defiant and triumphant song addresses a former lover who doubted his potential for success.  A significant success, the song went all the way to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.  In 2001, the catchy tune was named the Academy of Country Music Award's Single and Song of the Year.

    5. "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue"

No list would be complete without including the 2002 released patriotic anthem.  The song was written as a response to the 9/11 attacks and became an immediate success.  Keith took great pride in America and the military and this song demonstrated his strong backing.  A staple at his concerts and a fan favorite, this is true Toby Keith.
