Kroger’s Little Clinic now offering popular weight loss drugs

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WCMH) — People interested in exploring popular new weight loss drugs can now find out if they qualify for a prescription simply by visiting a clinic inside a local Kroger or without even leaving their home.

Kroger Health’s The Little Clinic has announced its weight management program is getting an update that includes “comprehensive options” such as GLP-1 medication therapies, the company said in a news release. Some well-known GLP-1s include drugs such as Wegovy, Zepbound and others.

“This renewed weight management program will provide resources to patients struggling with their weight and weight-related health conditions to improve their overall wellbeing,” said Meggen Brown, Kroger Health’s Chief Nursing Officer.

Both in-person and telehealth visits are offered, which start at $99 per session. The clinic does accept insurance to pay for the cost of treatment.

“Patients can meet with our team in their familiar neighborhood retailer or virtually in the comfort of their home,” said Brown. “This is just one more way we are making healthcare convenient, accessible and affordable for families.”

The healthcare company also noted the other resources offered in its new approach to help clients reach their goals:

• Resources on fresh and healthy foods
• Ongoing medical visits from a board-certified clinical provider
• Routine coaching
• Community support information
• If appropriate, the inclusion of prescribed, FDA-approved medical treatments, including GLP-1s

Kroger Health said it is putting its “Food as Medicine” philosophy to the forefront with the overhaul of its program. Grocery items that can help prevent illness and maintain a healthy weight are emphasized with this approach.

“Each treatment plan is personalized by licensed healthcare providers based on a patient’s health history as well as their overall health and wellness goals,” said Emily Matthews, Kroger’s Columbus Division Little Clinic regional clinical leader. “We want to help our patients get and stay healthy.”

The program is available at The Little Clinic in Ohio and other clinic states including Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.
