HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – Local veterans and members of the community came together to celebrate the grand re-opening of a historic hall for area veterans.

Built in 1948, Hendrick Rhodes VFW Post 5206 was purchased by Henderson County government in 2021. The county then spent $4.7 million to renovate the building.

Now, it’s open again as the Hendrick Rhodes Veterans Center.

The renovated space will be home two two veterans services officers, and will remain the home of the VFW chapter. The building also has meeting rooms which can be rented out for events.

“What it means to us to the board, and to the staff here is a recognition of the veterans in this community, their sacrifice, their family sacrifice,” said John Mitchell, Henderson County manager.
