Striker Davie Selke is leaving relegated Cologne.

The 29-year-old's deal ran out on June 30 and talks about staying for a promotion push failed.

"I felt very comfortable in Cologne and with the club. It's no secret that I could have imagined staying. This opportunity was ultimately taken away from me," the German wrote on Instagram.

Selke's six goals could not prevent Cologne losing their Bundesliga status at the end of last season. He also played from RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen in the German top flight and is now free to find another club.
