CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — The Department of Health and Human Services has granted three local counties over $7M in funding to expand their Head Start programs.

Lee County, Harnett County and Johnston County will collectively receive around $7 million from DHHS to expand the Early Head Start program, which serves families with children younger than three, as well as support towards the Head Start program, which serves children between three and five years old.

Head Start is a federally funded, comprehensive preschool program that also connects medical and dental care to families.
