    Boone County Fire Protection District responds to another water rescue Tuesday morning

    BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

    The Boone County Fire Protection District responded to a water rescue Tuesday morning on Route Z.

    According to the Fire & Rescue Dispatch log, first responders were called to 11288 N Route Z at 4:46 a.m. Tuesday.

    An ABC 17 News report arrived at the scene just before 5:30 a.m. and saw one car in a ditch filled with water. One Boone County Fire Protection District vehicle and two Boone County Sheriff's deputies were at the scene. ABC 17 News did not see the driver of the car at the scene.

    The Boone County Fire Protection District wrote on X that it responded to a water rescue and warned drivers to not drive through flooded roads.

    Boone County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Brian Leer wrote in an email that the driver was the only person in the car and was able to get out of the vehicle without injuries.

    Several water rescues have occurred over the past week in Boone County.

    On Monday, Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Tobben, 42, died while assisting the Columbia Fire Department in a water rescue effort. Tobben, a CFD firefighter and two people being rescued were on a Boone County water rescue boat when the boat lost power and overturned, throwing people out of the boat.

    On Wednesday last week, a woman died after a vehicle was swept away in floodwater on Gillespie Bridge Road . Iveta Thayer, 81, of Columbia, was found dead on Friday morning .

    The Columbia Fire Department said five people were rescued Monday morning from several water rescues throughout Columbia.
