KANE COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The Deer Springs Fire burning in southern Utah has grown to nearly 12,000 acres, becoming the largest wildfire in the state.

The latest update posted Tuesday morning from the Bureau of Land Management put the fire at 11,800 acres and 0% contained. The fire is burning in rural Kane County, south of Bryce Canyon National Park. So far, no evacuations have been issued.

In a Facebook post, fire officials said crews plan Tuesday to secure the line to the north of the fire and continue fire line construction to the south. On Monday, firefighters worked to keep the fire south of Skutumpah Road.

The Deer Springs Fire was sparked on Sunday and it quickly spread amid hot and dry conditions in southern Utah. Officials believe the fire was human-caused, although the blaze’s origin remains under investigation.

Much of southern Utah is under critical fire and excessive heat warnings. Two other large wildfires, the Little Twist Fire and the Silver King Fire, are also burning in southern Utah.
