MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — A man is now in jail after police say he beat up his girlfriend and wouldn’t let her leave or call for help.

Police say the woman involved was able to reach officers early Saturday morning at a home along 4th Street. An officer says the man, Joshua Nerby, answered the door covered in blood.

Inside the home, police found the woman who had injuries to her face, head and arms. She said the abuse had been happening for two days, and every time she tried to leave, Nerby blocked the door.

The woman continued to say that on July 4, she was able to go to a nearby store and get a phone, and changed the locks because she was afraid of Nerby.

Police say that as the woman called 911, Nerby grabbed the phone out of her hand. When asked about it, Nerby told police he and the woman were arguing because she woke him up accusing him of cheating.

He’s now facing three felony counts, including domestic violence, interfering with a 911 call, and felonious restraint.

This week, a judge set Nerby’s bond at $15,000 and ordered him to stay away from the woman.
Nerby’s trial is currently scheduled for October 29th.
