Kamala Harris is scheduled to speak at the Alpha Kappa Alpha convention in Dallas

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to visit Dallas on Wednesday to speak at the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority's national convention.

The big picture: Harris is expected to address the convention's roughly 20,000 attendees about abortion rights, gun restrictions, better voting access and environmental protections.

    • She joined the sorority, a historically Black organization that promotes social justice, in college .

Yes, but: Hundreds of gay men were kicked out of a Dallas hotel over the weekend after members of the sorority complained about their attire, The Advocate reports .

What happened: The men were attending the Daddyland Festival, a music event that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.

    • The owner of the Crowne Plaza Downtown Dallas, which was a host hotel for Daddyland participants, told the Advocate that some of the AKA members had complained about the attendees' attire.
    • "We have rules here of clothes, and they're supposed to wear their clothes, and they didn't wear their clothes," the owner told the Advocate.
    • The hotel served notices to dozens of rooms affiliated with Daddyland, asking guests to leave, offering them a refund and saying that all of their events were canceled.

Friction point: There are differing accounts of what happened, and whether the eviction was justified.

    • "A pool party at the hotel had women dressed in bikini tops and bottoms walking through the lobby, and nobody seemed to care. But gay men in short shorts and tank tops led to a mass eviction," Kayvon Sohrabi, a Daddyland vendor who was staying at the hotel, told the Advocate.

What we're watching: Whether the drama surrounding her sorority affects Harris' plans to speak at the convention.
