OLD IRON TOWN, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A man was hospitalized Monday after being gored by a bull in Old Iron Town, according to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office .

Iron County authorities responded to Old Iron Town — an area considered to be one of Utah’s first ghost towns — on a report of an altercation and a bull. Authorities said they learned two men had been in a physical altercation and another was gored by a bull.

Medical personnel initially requested a Life Flight helicopter to transport the injured man, however, they later decided to transport him by ambulance after evaluating his injuries. The sheriff’s office did not disclose any further information regarding the extent of his injuries or his current condition.

Authorities said they did not make any arrests in connection to the incident as the two men involved in the physical altercation chose not to press charges. They did not provide insight into the nature of the altercation or its connection to the bull.

The sheriff’s office said a brand inspector used the bull’s branding to identify his owner. They contacted the owner and the bull “was removed from populated areas.”

“The Iron County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to all emergency responders and individuals involved for their cooperation and quick resolution of the incident,” the news release said. “Moving forward, they emphasize the importance of exercising caution around animals and reporting any related incidents to the appropriate authorities.”

Old Iron Town is located approximately 24 miles from Cedar City. It was originally named Iron City during the 19th century, however it was later abandoned due to difficulties transporting iron ore from the area, according to Visit Cedar City .

While Google Maps shows a few houses built nearby, the residences are centered around the Old Iron Town ruins, which include a large kiln and a foundry area.
