    Alabama lawmaker arrested on two felony charges

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that Rep. Kelvin Jamichael Lawrence (D-Lowndes County) was arrested on two felony charges on Tuesday.

    According to the Attorney General’s Office, 50-year-old Lawrence of Lowndes County was charged with second-degree forgery and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

    The indictment against Lawrence alleges that he intended to defraud, falsely made, completed, or altered a builder’s license. Both crimes are considered Class C felonies and can carry a sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.

    Lawrence was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives on November 4, 2014. He is the representative for House District 69.

    Lawrence represents the following counties:

    • Autauga County
    • Lowndes County
    • Montgomery County
    • Wilcox County

    The case is being prosecuted by the Special Prosecutions Division
