CCSO: High-Speed DUI Chase in Citrus County Ends in Arrest of 66-Year-Old Woman

Citrus County, Florida – In a statement released Monday evening, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of 66-year-old Brenda Evangelista Jenkins following a high-speed chase through Citrus County. Deputies attempted to stop Jenkins' vehicle, suspected of involvement in a hit-and-run incident resulting from a road rage altercation.

According to the Sheriff's Office, when deputies activated their emergency lights, Jenkins fled, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph on Gulf to Lake Highway (44). She drove erratically, swerving in and out of traffic and sideswiping a vehicle. Near the intersection of W Main St and N Pine Ave, Jenkins struck another vehicle before continuing east on W Main Street and eventually crashing into a crosswalk pole.

Despite repeated requests from deputies, Jenkins refused to exit her vehicle, blaming the deputies for the crash. Deputies observed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the strong smell of alcohol on her breath. An open wine container was found in the center console of her vehicle. Jenkins' blood alcohol content was determined to be .251, over three times the legal limit.

The Sheriff's Office confirmed that Jenkins was arrested and charged with:

• Fleeing and eluding with disregard for safety
• Two counts of DUI with property damage
• Leaving the scene of a crash with property damage

Jenkins is currently held without bond.
