SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — On Monday, Hurricane Berly moved across the Texas Coast into the ArkLaTex, leaving a path of destruction behind. The National Weather Service issued 67 tornado warnings for Shreveport warning areas, including most residents in the tri-state region.
GoFundMe has set up a Hurricane Relief Fund for the survivors needing immediate emergency relief and long-term recovery.
SWEPCO recorded that more than 2 million Texans are without power, approximately 15,784 in Louisiana, and 4,828 customers in the Arklatex were impacted by the hurricane-force winds brought by Beryl.
They state each fundraiser is verified to help people ‘rebuild and recover.’
According to GoFundMe, there are three ways people can help Hurricane Beryl survivors:
Donate to verified fundraisers that support relief efforts.
Donated to certified charity fundraisers (verified charity or nonprofit providing critical support to those affected by Hurricane Beryl.)
According to the 2024 Hurricane Relief Fund : ‘Your donation will ensure this fund can support as many people as possible as soon as a disaster strikes. We send critical cash grants directly to people who need help within 24 hours following a hurricane.’
A GoFundMe spokesperson stated that individuals directly impacted can apply to receive a ‘cash grant’ starting at $500 from their relief fund.
The Spokesperson elaborated, stating, “Grants are distributed as funds are available, at the discretion of GoFundMe.org. Grant amounts are determined for each crisis based on severity, scope, and impact of relief funding, and typically start at $500.”
In order to qualify for a cash grant, GoFundMe will “affirm the need” and distribute the funds to verified fundraisers on the platform. If a fundraiser meets the requirements for a grant, it will be displayed as a new donation from GoFundMe.org.
