WARD COUNTY, ND ( KXNET ) — The Ward County Sheriff’s Department is warning people about a phone scam that’s going around.

According to a news release, the department has been getting several calls about the scam over the course of two days.

In the scam, an unknown man, claiming to be a Sgt. Ryan Summers is using a computer-generated number to make it appear that the call is coming from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.

The scammer is stating that the person has been issued a jury summons, failed to appear, and now has warrants for arrest. In some of the calls, the man has even listed a judge by name.

The man is requesting that people get Bitcoin to pay for the bond on the warrants.

The Ward County Sheriff’s Department wants to remind people that they will never ask for any type of payment over the phone, and in the case of any warrant, they would have you contact their main office number.

Do not provide any personal information to anyone on the phone who you suspect to be involved in a scam.
