    How many crashes in Lubbock County are alcohol-related?

    LUBBOCK, Texas — Public data obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Wednesday showed Lubbock County has seen a decrease in total crashes and alcohol-related collisions so far in 2024.

    Crashes in 2024 so far

    So far in 2024, public records showed there have been at least 3,551 total crashes reported in Lubbock County. As of July 10, a query from the Texas Department of Transportation’s Crash Records Information System (CRIS) showed 1,281 of those collisions ended with injuries, and 15 crashes had fatalities reported.

    The query showed at least 154 crashes in 2024 so far were considered “alcohol involved crashes.” The data showed five of the alcohol-involved crashes were deadly.

    Crashes in 2023

    When compared to the same time the previous year, Lubbock County has seen a decrease so far in the total number of reported crashes. From January to July 10 of 2023, 4,416 crashes were reported, with 1,463 involving injuries and 27 crashes being fatal. Data showed 226 crashes were alcohol related. According to CRIS data, 10 of those alcohol-involved crashes were deadly.

    In total, Lubbock County saw 8,461 crashes in 2023, according to data from a CRIS query. The data showed 2,877 of those crashes involved injuries and 52 crashes had fatalities reported. A total of 395 reported crashes in 2023 were alcohol-involved. Data showed 25 of those alcohol-involved crashes were deadly.

    The CRIS uses data collected from peace officer crash reports that have been processed by TxDOT. Data from some recent crashes may not have been reported yet.
