    Nevada State Park Ranger shoots, kills person in Valley of Fire State Park

    UPDATE: The Valley of Fire reopened Friday morning following a deadly shooting involving a park ranger on Wednesday. More details are expected to be released next week. The ranger involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave, according to the Nevada Division of State Parks.

    OVERTON, NV (KLAS) — A Nevada State Park Ranger shot and killed a person in Valley of Fire State Park Wednesday afternoon, according to a release from the Nevada Division of State Parks.

    According to the release, a park ranger stationed at Valley of Fire shot their service weapon while responding to a call in the park, hitting one person.

    Medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the person dead. According to the division, the park ranger was not injured.

    Valley of Fire State Park remains closed to visitors for the remainder of the day, the release stated. Those with camping reservations will be allowed to access the campground, but will not be able to access the rest of the park, the division said.

    The division did not release any details about the call or the person shot.

    This is an ongoing investigation.
