A Wilson man faces attempted murder charges after police say he shot at a woman standing in front of her home.

Nakia Monteago King, 49, of the 700 block of New Street, is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count each of discharging a weapon into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor injury to real property, according to a news release from Sgt. Eric McInerny, public information officer with the Wilson Police Department.

McInerny said officers were sent to the 800 block of Moore Street at 10:41 p.m. Monday after someone reported shots fired into an occupied home.

McInerny said the caller told dispatchers that King was the suspect.

“As officers were arriving in the area, King was located and taken into custody without incident,” McInerny said.

King was given a $510,000 secured bond and placed in the Wilson County Detention Center.

According to the N.C. Department of Adult Correction website, King was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon in Nash County in 2009 and involuntary manslaughter in Wilson County in 1995.

Police ask anyone with information about Monday’s shooting to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
