The San Jose Sharks and defenseman Ty Emberson have agreed on a one-year $950K contract, and there will not be an arbitration hearing.

Emberson played 30 games last season but was one of the Sharks' most effective defensemen, especially when he was paired with Mario Ferraro.

"Ty is a solid stay-at-home defenseman who uses his body to be hard on pucks and out-work opponents in his own zone," GM Mike Grier said in a press release. "He is effective in penalty kill situations and is disciplined in his on-ice play."

Before last season, the 24-year-old was claimed off waivers from the New York Rangers. The claim has become one of GM Grier's most underrated moves.

Emberson had one goal and nine assists last season. He scored his first NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks.
