Kansas authorities believe they found the remains of a missing Kansas man who they say was murdered.

Camoran Shoptese, 36, of Blue Rapids, was last seen on July 4. Officials suspected foul play was involved in his disappearance, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

A person of interest connected to the homicide is in custody on unrelated charges, a Thursday KBI news release said.

On Wednesday, the KBI and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office found human remains they think belong to Shoptese. It’s unclear when the remains will be positively identified.

“(KBI) Agents found evidence indicating that Shoptese was murdered,” the KBI said.

    Shoptese’s disappearance

Authorities began looking for Shoptese on Saturday after they received reports from family and a significant other concerned about his well-being, KBI spokesperson Melissa Underwood said Sunday.

Police found human remains around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in rural Marshall County. Investigators were also looking for a 2008 black Chevy Colorado that was involved in his disappearance. The truck did not belong to Shoptese, according to Underwood.

“Rural property owners in the area are also asked to check for and report any suspicious activity they might notice on their land,” Underwood said.

Investigators say there is no danger to the public and anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME. Anonymous tips can be submitted online at https://www.kbi.ks.gov/sar .
