WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Luzerne County Transportation Authority held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new headquarters.

Dozens came out to celebrate the center’s grand opening this morning.

After breaking ground on the project more than two years ago, the LCTA’s new headquarters is officially open for use.

With the help of state, federal, and local funding, the new facility is a hub for all things LCTA.

“This is a long-awaited administrative, maintenance, and storage facility for LCTA,” said Bob Fiume the executive director at LCTA.

Located along Pennsylvania Avenue, Luzerne County Transportation Authority busses and vans will now be stored and receive maintenance under the same roof. They’ll also be fueled using a compressed natural gas fueling station.

“All of our administrative offices will be here,” says Fiume.

Officials say the new space will help the LCTA operate more efficiently.

“We’re more efficient, we’re more professional,” stated Fiume.

Prior to the opening of the new headquarters, the LCTA’s services were spread out across the county.

“We were separated by two different buildings. Our shared ride was in one building, and our fixed route administrative was in another. We’re all under one roof. All of our maintenance will be held here, and all of our fueling will be held here instead of going to various spots,” explained Fiume.

The James F. Conahan Intermodal Transportation Center on South Washington Street will still be the place to catch a bus. LCTA staff will move into this building over the next two weeks.
