POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Residents of Powhatan County are being asked to stay in their homes Thursday as authorities pursue an armed and dangerous felon.

The afternoon of Thursday, July 11, the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office instructed residents to remain in their homes until told otherwise due to “law enforcement activity.” The Goochland County Sheriff’s Office also asked residents of the Rock Castle/West View area of Goochland to shelter in place, as well.

Further details were released as the situation developed. According to the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Chazz Lee Gordon of Powhatan fled a felony traffic stop at about 2:40 p.m., resulting in a chase that ended in the 4900 block of Cartersville Road.

Armed robbery occurred at 7Eleven near VCU on 7/11

Gordon reportedly fled his vehicle with a pistol in his hand, running into a wooded area. According to the release, law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions — including Chesterfield, Goochland and Cumberland counties, as well as Virginia State Police — are involved in the search.

As of 8:10 a.m. on Friday, July 12, Gordon remains at large. Powhatan residents in the area of 4900 Cartersville Road do not need to shelter in place but should remain aware their surroundings, according to officials.

In its update on the search for Gordon, the sheriff’s office added that additional charges are pending relating to his reported evasion of law enforcement, including felony eluding, hit and run, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and brandishing a firearm.

Gordon is described as a 6’2″ Black man weighing about 175 lbs. According to the release, he was last seen wearing a tank top and grey pants. The office added that his hair is currently shorter than it is in the above photo.

If you have any information on Gordon’s whereabouts, you are asked to contact the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office at 804-598-5656. Call 911 if you see anything suspicious.
