Former Christian school teacher impregnated student, Hillsborough deputies say

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A former music teacher at a Hillsborough County Christian school was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of impregnating one of his students during a years-long “inappropriate relationship.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was notified on July 3 of a sexual relationship between a teacher and student at Grace Christian School, according to a HCSO news release.

Denzel Proctor, 26, began the alleged relationship with the minor in 2022 when she was 16, HCSO said. She told deputies they engaged in sex acts on and off campus for two years, which resulted in her becoming pregnant, according to the release.

Proctor resigned from the school in 2023. The school reported “rumors of the allegations” to the Florida Department of Children and Families.

“This man preyed upon a vulnerable teenager, violating the trust of our community,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Such betrayal is especially devastating when it comes from someone expected to serve as a mentor. I hope that this victim can heal from the trauma caused by this man and take advantage of the resources available to her.”
