Capital Blue Cross has been selected to administer The Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Healthcare’s self-funded health plans for large and mid-sized employers.

The LVBCH Board of Directors, in making the selection, has endorsed Capital Blue Cross as LVBCH’s exclusive Preferred Partner for Medical. Capital Blue Cross participated in an extensive review process to earn the Preferred Partner status.

Capital Blue Cross demonstrated market-leading plan performance, pricing, and enhanced service capabilities that give employers benefits and benefit administration options that best meet their needs, LVBCH said.

Using a market-based approach, the coalition said it negotiates rates exclusive to its members and better than what individual employers can obtain on their own.

“Since our relationship began in 2013, Capital Blue Cross has been a valued partner of the coalition,” said LVBCH President Carl Seitz. “With this selection, Capital Blue Cross will continue to bring outstanding value to coalition members, a point that’s more important than ever as employers and their employees are facing unprecedented economic pressure. We appreciate how Capital Blue Cross directly contributes to LVBCH’s mission to improve the delivery, cost, and quality of healthcare in our communities.”

Capital Blue Cross has built a trusted reputation through its commitment to improving health care quality and outcomes for its members while addressing costs for employers and their employees, the coalition said.

The preferred status allows Capital and the coalition to collaborate in developing programs and services specifically for coalition members and ensures they can benefit from Capital Blue Cross’s cost-efficient group health plan management solutions, LVBCH said.

The arrangement also has produced additional financial incentives for coalition members, stemming from significant membership increases.

“Capital Blue Cross is proud to continue supporting the coalition’s mission and development,” said Capital Blue Cross President and CEO Todd Shamash. “The Capital Blue Cross-LVBCH collaboration provides innovative solutions that allow the region’s employers to better manage their total cost of care and underscore Capital Blue Cross’s longstanding commitment to the Lehigh Valley.”

Capital Blue Cross Chief Sales Officer Wes Reohr said the growth from working together will yield substantial administrative savings to participating employers.

“This is another example of Capital going the extra mile to ensure coalition members get the highest-quality coverage at the most affordable cost,” Reohr said.

LVBCH includes more than 275 member companies representing over 171,000 employees and almost 394,000 member lives. Coalition purchasing programs are available directly to employer members, and through members’ consultant and broker representatives, which is an integral part of LVBCH’s membership recruitment, the coalition said.
