On July 2, the victim allegedly received a text message from Suggs saying to meet her at a field so they could fight. About 10 minutes later, she got another text from Suggs saying, “We here.”

The victim remembered her car was parked by the field, so she went to move it. At that point, Suggs reportedly punched her and they began to fight.

Records state the victim fell to the ground and Lester and another suspect, Lasheka McCraney, began kicking her in her back and stomach. Another woman stood and recorded the incident.

The victim’s sister attempted to break up the fight and got assaulted as well.

MPD says the victim was three months pregnant and lost the baby on July 6.

Both Suggs and Luster could face up to 15 years in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted of the aggravated assault charges.

We asked Memphis Police why the three suspects were only being charged with aggravated assault.

They say, “After [the DA’s office] reviewed the facts of the case, she determined that the probable cause supported this charge. Charges can be amended.”

Luster and Suggs told the judge on Friday morning they are not sure if they can hire a lawyer, but they are certain their family will bail them out.

“If you are still here and they haven’t hired you a lawyer, I will give you a public defender,” said Judge Sheila Bruce Renfroe.

Suggs and Luster are both being held on $25,000 bonds. The bail review hearing for both suspects is scheduled for Monday.

A warrant was issued for Lasheka McCraney’s arrest, police say.

We reached out to the victim and her family members but we have not heard back.
