It's about time a band releases an ode to the greatest band of all time, and it makes perfect sense that Muscadine Bloodline would be the ones to do it. The sixth single off of their forthcoming record The Coastal Plain, Muscadine Bloodline's latest release pays homage to the great
Turnpike Troubadours, a band that has not only had a heavy influence on their songwriting and sound, as they have to countless bands over the last decade and a half, but also on their approach to the navigating the music industry as an independent band. Employing the efforts of Turnpike's generationally talented fiddle player Kyle Nix, the hard-sawing purveyor of his band's signature sound, Muscadine Bloodline's new track is a honky tonk tune that expands on their tight sound as they include the fiddle for the first time ever, and features plenty of the clever lyricism that has become synonymous with their growing catalog. In the song, the narrator leverages tickets to a Turnpike Troubadours show in Montgomery, AL as he musters up the courage to finally ask a girl on a date. And there's a pretty sweet music video of Muscadine Bloodline's Gary Stanton and Charlie Muncaster jamming with Kyle Nix on the tour bus.
"Darling, can I take you out? Been waiting for a minute I got an extra ticket to a Turnpike show We can both sneak out, alibi together And it don't hurt nothin' what your mama don't know Won't you run with me to Montgomery? Wherever the hell, I'm down Hey darling, can I take you out?" Check it out for yourself here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQkiu6v7Nas Prior to the "Tickets to Turnpike" release, the boys from Muscadine took to Instagram to provide some insightful context as to their relationship with the Turnpike Troubadours and a bit about how this song, and the Kyle Nix feature, came to be. "Our first time seeing Turnpike play a show was in Hattiesburg, MS at a place called the Thirsty Hippo in 2013. There may have been 40 people there. Fast-forward 10 years later, they are selling out arenas and doing it independently. When people told us there is a glass ceiling to what we're trying to do, our response has always been, 'What about Turnpike?'
From the songwriting, the authenticity, and the business we've looked up to the boys from East Oklahoma. We've been honored to share the stage with them several times over the past few years and this song serves as an ode to the impression they made on us from the get go. If you're gunna write a song about the Turnpike Troubadours, you're gunna need some fiddle. So, We were honored to have Kyle Nix of Turnpike grace the song with some saw and string. 'Tickets to Turnpike' out at midnight. Long Live Turnpike." https://www.instagram.com/p/C9SyVlkBuuG/?img_index=1 Fronted by the duo of Gary Stanton and Charlie Muncaster, the Mobile, AL based Muscadine Bloodline, much like the Turnpike Troubadours, has built one of the strongest followings in independent music through over a decade of honing their sound, touring hard, and authentic songwriting. Proving to be one of the more prolific groups out there as well, Muscadine's next album
The Coastal Plain , following last year's  incredible record Teenage Dixie , is set to be released in just over a month on August 16. And if you ask me, this could be one of the very best records of the year. Check out the track list and the singles they've released thus far below.
