BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A Cameron County Jail inmate is facing new charges for allegedly threatening to assault a jail supervisor.

Lawrence James Strong, 37, was originally incarcerated on charges of aggravated assault and capital murder, a release from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office stated.

On July 2, Strong was found with several contraband items in his Old County Jail cell. Due to the violation, Strong was moved to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center for a disciplinary board hearing.

According to the release, on July 4, Strong began questioning why he was being moved and voiced his complaints to jail staff.

Authorities say he became belligerent and began threatening one of the jail supervisors saying “Van a ir a su casa a tumbarle el canton.” Authorities believe this is “prison slang” for assaulting or murdering someone.

The next day authorities heard Strong speak to a family member over the phone. During the call, he made another threat toward the same jail supervisor.

Authorities reported that Strong made the following threat on the phone: “Cuando vea ese pu** se le va caer el canton.”

After an investigation of the case, Strong was charged with retaliation against a public servant, a third degree felony.

Strong remains jailed on his previous charges.
