BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It was graduation night for dozens of recruits with the Kern County Fire Department.

The Kern County Fire Department announced 44 young men and women successfully completed the department’s academy, learning all aspects of firefighting, rescue and other disciplines.

Proud family members pinned badges on the new firefighters during the ceremony, which was held at Liberty High School Thursday night.

“It’s just an honor for myself and my fellow recruits to be able to serve the Kern County communities,” said Roland Maddox, recent graduate.
