Earlier this week, news of multiple Georgia Bulldogs’ football players being arrested for reckless driving put the football program in the headlines and once again raised questions as to what Georgia head coach, Kirby Smart, needs to do in order to keep his players from getting involved in off the field incident, in particularly, street racing.

On Thursday, it was reported that Georgia linebacker, Smael Mondon was taken into custody Wednesday night and charged with misdemeanors for racing and reckless driving, while Georgia offensive lineman, Bo Hughley, was reported to have been arrested Tuesday, in an incident separate of Mondon’s, for failure to maintain lane/improper lane change, also misdemeanor charges.

While Hughley’s incident did not involve racing, the two incidents sparked some emotion from Sandra Golden, which she expressed on Friday on The Steakhouse. “Because Devon Willock being dead is obviously not a big enough deal,” Golden said as she and Steak Shapiro reacted to the news of the Mondon and Hughley arrest and referring to the 2023 car racing accident that Willock and Georgia staffer Chandler LeCroy, were killed in.

“There is nothing that Kirby Smart can do that’s going to automatically flip the switch,” Golden said, adding that the deaths of Willock and LeCroy should have been impactful enough to detour players from racing their cars. “It’s not working,” Golden added. Kirby Smart is expected to address the issues next week during SEC Media Days.
