PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A Putnam County mother has been indicted in connection to a deadly fire that killed her young child.

According to an indictment from Putnam County County Circuit Court, Megan Kincaid, is facing charges of child neglect resulting in death and child neglect creating a substantial risk of bodily injury.

Putnam County Prosecuting Attorney Kristina Raynes says the child, 2, died in a fire on Nov. 10, 2022, in Eleanor. According to the indictment, the child would have turned 3 later that month.

Kincaid and the child were trapped in the home when the fire broke out. They were rescued by crews and taken to the hospital. The child later died of their injuries, and Kincaid was seriously injured. That evening after the fire, Putnam County Sheriff Bobby Eggleton had said Kincaid was on a ventilator and fighting for her life due to her injuries in the fire.
