Ty Emberson and the San Jose Sharks avoided arbitration after both sides agreed on a one-year contract extension.

Emberson met with the media for the first time since injuring himself against the Anaheim Ducks on February 29th. After some time, Emberson's injury was revealed as a lower-body laceration.

Emberson told reporters this morning that he had surgery that night and has no limitations on his offseason training.

Emberson only played 30 games last season but feels like most of his injuries were flukes and is ready to have a more consistent season in 2024-25

"I'm just making sure I take care of my body, be diligent in my physical therapy, and just making sure that I can withstand different injuries," Emberson explained. "Whether I'm doing pilates or just stretching a little more. I think a lot of last year's injuries were a little bit fluky. I think this year, [I'm] just hoping that I can stay healthy and just be diligent with everything."

After being claimed by the Sharks last season, Emberson knows he is valued here. San Jose qualified him, proving to him they didn't want to let him go. Despite feeling calmer, his mindset isn't changing about needing to make the team.

"I think it just gives me a little bit of calmness coming into the season. [My mindset for] training camp is, I still got to make the team, and I got to prove myself every single year," Emberson said. "Just making sure that I know what they want from me and I can produce."

After working with new head coach Ryan Warsofsky last season, Emberson feels that now, as the main guy behind the bench, Warsofsky's age and ability to connect with players is valuable.

"He brings a lot of communication skills of being able to work with young players and understanding a little bit of how the game has transitioned. He's made his way through the ranks. He's won at every single level, and I think he's going to win again at this level," Emberson said. "I like Warsy a lot, just his communication skills, of making sure that it's a two-way street, of understanding that we are working on things, and he's working to build us as players and people. So I think just him being able to understand the younger generation is going to help a lot."

Emberson was paired with Mario Ferraro for much of last season. That pair worked well together, but with a new head coach, there will likely be some lineup changes.
