A 27-year-old Dallas man faces felony charges in connection to the 2014 sexual assault of a disabled woman in Mesquite, police say.

In September 2014, officers responded after a resident found a woman lying on the side of their house in the 3500 block of Moon Drive, Mesquite police said.

Police said during the investigation, they learned the woman was disabled. She was left unconcious with severe injuries to her head and face.

Authorities completed a sexual assault kit on the victim, but did not find a match or a suspect 10 years ago.

Finally, they were able to use that sample to compare to family members who had used an online ancestry tests.

"Over the years they kept being able to dwindle it down based off more DNA samples that were provided to some of these third-party -- like ancestry.com and some of those things," Mesquite police Lt. Michael Kelly said. "Until we got a couple matches or were able to pinpoint it to him being the highest probability of being the suspect."

On Wednesday, police arrested 27-year-old Jorge Post and charged him with aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person. Post was 17 years old in 2014.

Kelly said detectives used an item Post threw away to get his DNA and make a match.
