Boyle County Sheriff deputies responded to Needmore Road on July 9 in reference to a missing beagle dog complaint.  Responding deputies located numerous shell casings near the backyard and kennel area.

They found blood on the outside of the doghouse and the porch of the residence.  A search of the area was conducted and the dog was not located.

Through extensive investigation, deputies determined that Kenneth Wingard had been staying at the residence.  Deputies made contact with Wingard, who stated that he had shot the dog while being very intoxicated.

After shooting the dog, Wingard hid the carcass in the floorboard of his truck, locked the truck and left the area.

Deputies recovered the deceased beagle and returned it to its owner.  The dog had been shot at least four times.  Wingard was charged with the following: Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree; Tampering with Physical Evidence; Torture of Dog/Cat with Serious Physical Injury Or Death.

Wingard was lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center.
