    One dead, two seriously hurt following Caldwell County crash

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 22-year-old Raytown woman is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Caldwell County.

    The crash was reported Thursday, July 11, on MO 116, three miles east of Lathrop .

    Two children were also reported to have suffered serious injuries in the wreck.

    MSHP says that the crash occurred as the driver of a Dodge Charger traveled westbound on MO 116 and attempted to pass another vehicle.

    The driver of the Charger then lost control off the south side of the roadway, overcorrected to the north side of the roadway and struck a private driveway and ditch, sending the vehicle airborne.

    The vehicle came to a stop off the north side of the roadway on its driver’s side facing west.

    The driver, identified as Ayrika N. Ross, was taken to Liberty Hospital by Caldwell County EMS and was pronounced dead just after 1:30 a.m. on Friday.

    The two children, ages 7 and 8, were taken to Liberty Hospital by Tri-County EMS with serious injuries.

    MSHP claims Ross was not wearing a safety device, and that the Charger was totaled in the wreck. It is unknown if the two children were wearing safety devices.
