CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – With the Clearfield Fair kicking off during a very hot week, farmers are working to keep their livestock cool and healthy.

“Hydrate, keep it cool, take it easy,” is some advice from Lynnette Pistner of Pistner’s Muddy Acres Farm.

Another key point that Pistner mentioned is knowing the amount of heat that your animal can handle and watching how much they are working out in the heat.

“I mean some horses just like humans can handle the heat while some others just can’t,” Pistner said.

Making sure that the animals are receiving enough water is essential to keeping them healthy.

“We are going to use some fans, and then we are going to wash them daily, and then we are going to give them fresh cold water every day,” Ella Brooks of Black Barn Livestock said.

Not only is it important to keep the animals cool throughout the heatwave, but if you plan on attending the fair this week, be sure to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.
