CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Cabell County is celebrating 35 years of 911 service.

July 1 marked the milestone, and on Friday, July 12, Cabell County 911 hosted an event to honor the retired and current dispatchers.

Before Cabell County 911 was created, the county’s residents had to dial different seven-digit numbers to reach the service they needed. At its inception, the station started in the basement of Huntington’s City Hall with just 17 dispatchers.

Now, they host more than 30 dispatchers in their own 911 center.

Dispatchers in Cabell County are now more prepared than ever with access to GPS locations and different certifications. The community is thankful for their 35 years of service!
