FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A mistrial was declared on Friday in the case of a Florence man charged with murder, 12th Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements said.

Derrick Lamont Brunson, 49, was on trial after allegedly beating a woman to death in a Florence County home in 2021. Clements said a mistrial was declared because of a hung jury.

Brunson is accused of beating the woman, Katlyn Schippnick, over a period of time in a Pine Court Circle home, which resulted in internal bleeding and her eventual death on May 21, Major Mike Nunn said.

No other information was immediately available.
