Alexander Zverev has arrived in his home city of Hamburg but will only decide after first training sessions whether he will participate in the ATP tournament there next week.

Zverev damaged his knee last week at Wimbledon, and while the injury is not serious he will not want to take any risks a fortnight before the start of the Olympic tournament in Paris where he aims for back-to-back gold medals.

"I trained for two hours today without painkillers," the Hamburg title holder said in a news conference on Saturday. For comparison, in London, he "shot himself up with painkillers to the limit," he said.

"If it were any other tournament, I wouldn't try. This is my home, this is where I started my career."

The knee still hurts, "but I can do most of it," Zverev continued. He's due to play his first round match on Tuesday against a qualifier.

Overall, Zverev said he's confident and he's not worried that the injury will worsen and jeopardize participation at the Olympics.

Zverev confirmed to broadcasters NDR that he will play at the Olympics from July 27 onwards, in singles and in mixed doubles together with Laura Siegemund.

"This time it will hopefully only be a few weeks, then I will be back and at 100% for the Olympics," he said.
