UPDATE, 5:16 p.m.: Utah Fire Info has released new details regarding the Graff Point Fire in Iron County.
At around 11 p.m. on July 12, firefighters responded to the area of the fire, which was burning in a group of mixed conifer and oak on private land. The area is densely covered with dry, heavy fuels and is steep and rugged, making it “difficult to deploy ground resources,” officials said.
As of Saturday, several resources are reportedly on scene and are working to make progress on the fire.
“Dry fuels, strong winds, extremely low relative humidity, and high temperatures have posed a challenge,” fire officials said. “Red Flag Warnings will remain in effect through tomorrow for the fire incident area.”
A total of 20 residents were reportedly evacuated from the area Saturday morning, and a road closure was put in place.
“We expect to receive more resources in the next operational period, including additional crews,” officials said.
The cause of the fire has confirmed to be lightning. At this point, the fire is estimated to be around 265 acres, with 20 structures threatened.
No further information is available at this time.
UPDATE, 12:07 p.m.: An evacuation order is in place for all “cabins, trailers, etc.” that are located above the Graff Point Fire in the upper basin and Shurtz Canyon, according to Utah Fire Info.
Road closures are reportedly in place from Shurtz Canyon Road to Right Hand/Kolob Mt. Road.
“Please avoid the area,” Utah Fire Info posted on social media.
