Ever since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots, the legacy of Bill Belichick has taken a hit to a certain extent.
Unfortunately for the NFL’s most winningest coach in terms of Super Bowls, the timing of the Patriots’ downfall coincided perfectly with the departure of Brady.
Since then, Belichick was unable to lead the Patriots to any success and thus after the 2023 NFL season, the team amicably parted ways with their long-time coach of 24 years. Surprisingly though, the former New England coach was unable to land a new head coaching job with any other NFL team in the 2024 offseason.
And that brings us to the question at hand which is his potential destination for 2025 as a head coach. Back in April, ESPN wrote an article in which they claimed that Belichick mentioned to his confidants his desire to coach in the NFC East, particularly the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, or the Philadelphia Eagles.
New York Giants
The New York Giants’ current head coach is Brian Daboll who took over the job in 2022. Going 9-7-1 in his first season, Daboll also won the AP NFL Coach of the Year Award.
However, 2023 saw him win only six games. If he has another down year in New York, then it is quite possible that Belichick could make his way back to the team where he earned two rings as an assistant coach.
The one drawback with a coaching move to the Giants is that the team is not in contention to make the playoffs as yet. Both the Cowboys and the Eagles are far superior teams in the NFC East while getting the wild card spot may is not an easy task.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys can present Bill Belichick with a better opportunity should the job be available. The Cowboys have found themselves in the playoffs quite regularly but it is the lack of a deep playoff run that has been haunting them over the years.
Dallas will no doubt provide Belichick with a playoff-contending team from the get-go. But, the big picture regarding Dak Prescott and his contract situation is still unfolding. Should the Cowboys reach out to Belichick next year, his decision may have a lot to do with whether or not Prescott is still there.
One point in favor of Belichick landing the Cowboys job next year if there is to be a change in Dallas is the fact that owner Jerry Jones and the former Patriots coach have been friends for several years now.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles head coach job is another one that interests Bill Belichick. However, this one seems a little far-fetched given that Nick Sirriani has led the Eagles to the postseason in all three seasons he has been their coach.
The Eagles are expected to perform much better than in 2023 which should ideally rule out the possibility of Belichick landing in Philly.
Nevertheless, things don’t always go according to plan and should the Eagles need to look at their options in 2025, who better than a six-time Champion?
