WILLOUGHBY, Ohio (WJW) — A 17-year-old boy died following a shooting early Saturday morning, Willoughby police confirm.

Emergency responders were called to the 4000 block of Erie Street around 12:30 a.m. for reports someone had been shot “near the back of the alley” and that another male was seen running away.

The 17-year-old was found on the ground and pronounced dead from “apparent gunshot wounds,” police said in a report.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the Madison teen’s identity or confirmed cause of death.

A suspect was identified following an initial investigation, and the 23-year-old from Painesville was located driving through Indiana this morning.

“With the assistance of Indiana State Police, the suspect’s vehicle was stopped and the suspect was secured without incident,” Willoughby police said.
