LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada officials took to social media Saturday after Donald Trump was whisked off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after what the Associated Press said was an assassination attempt that left one attendee dead, two attendees critically injured, and the suspected gunman dead.

Shooting at Trump rally is being investigated as assassination attempt, AP sources say

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo said in a post on X, “Donna and I thank God that former President Trump is safe and unharmed after being shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania. We are waiting for more information from the Secret Service. In the meantime, we are praying for calm and civility around the country.

Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen took to X to condemn the apparent shooting by saying “I’m keeping former President Trump and all those attending his rally in my thoughts. I condemn this despicable act of political violence in the strongest possible terms. I’ll continue monitoring the situation as we learn more.”

Nevada Congresswoman Susie Lee expressed on X that she is grateful the former president is safe by saying, “Political violence of any kind can never be tolerated in America. I am grateful to hear that the former president is safe and for the Secret Service officers who threw themselves in harm’s way. I am praying for everyone in Butler, PA.”

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said, “This is not who we are as a country. Political violence from any side of the political spectrum should be met with the appropriate consequences. Grateful to the law enforcement that stepped in, and hoping for justice to prevail. Glad to see that former President Trump is safe,” in a post on X.

Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus released a statement saying, “Gun violence has no place in our society. I am relieved that President Trump is okay and my thoughts are with him and the other victims of today’s horrific act. I commend the Secret Service on its swift response today and have full faith that they will bring to justice all individuals involved.”

Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager (D) took to X saying, “Political violence is neither acceptable nor an appropriate response to political disagreement. As we wait for more information on what transpired today, I am grateful it was not worse. Let’s collectively commit to strongly condemning political violence in any form.”

“Political violence does not have a place in our democracy. Period. Our differences are resolved at the ballot box and never through violence,” Congressman Steven Horsford said on X. “My thoughts are with the former President and everyone who was at the rally. No one in this country should have to experience that kind of trauma. I will be following the situation closely and applaud the swift action of law enforcement.”

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto said, “Political violence like this is an attack on our democracy and must never be tolerated. I’m grateful former President Trump is safe and my thoughts are with all those affected. Thank you to the law enforcement and first responders who were on the scene,” in a post on X.

Former President Barack Obama took to X wishing the former president a quick recovery saying, “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.”

Former President Bill Clinton said in a post on X, “Violence has no place in America, especially in our political process. Hillary and I are thankful that President Trump is safe, heartbroken for all those affected by the attack at today’s rally in Pennsylvania, and grateful for the swift action of the U.S. Secret Service.”
