EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU)— Some area politicians have released statements on the attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump in Butler County.

Mayor Paige Cognetti (D), Governor Shapiro (D), and Congressman Meuser are among those who have released statements regarding the shooting that has left two people dead and the former president injured.

    Senator John Fetterman (D):

“I am appalled and condemn in the strongest terms this violence in Butler. I extend my condolences to those injured and wish a speedy and full recovery for Mr. Trump.”

    Senator Bob Casey (D):

“I am monitoring the situation at President Trump’s rally in Butler and I’ve reached out the State Police to offer support. Political violence is never acceptable and I am hoping former president Trump & all attendees are safe. Everyone in Butler should listen to law enforcement.”

    Mayor Paige Cognetti (D):

“Political violence should never happen in our country or any other. We will keep former President Trump and his family in our thoughts and hope he has a quick and full recovery.”

    Governor Josh Shapiro (D):

“ Violence targeted at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable. It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States. I have been briefed on the situation. @PAStatePolice
are on the scene in Butler County and working with our federal and local partners.”

    Congressman Dan Meuser (R):

“Please join me in praying for President Trump and all at the Butler Rally. God bless the USA.”

    Congressman Matt Cartwright (D):

“The violence we saw in Butler today is horrifying, and has no place in our democracy. Marion and I are grateful to the courageous law enforcement officers and first responders who acted immediately to keep President Trump safe. We’re thinking of his family and extend our wishes for a quick recovery. We also want to express our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of all those killed or injured in the crowd today by this repugnant act of political violence.”
