Foul play suspected in death of 9-month-old baby in Catawba County: Sheriff

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Foul play is suspected in the death of a 9-month-old baby girl in Catawba County, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Friday, July 12, just before 5 a.m., deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of Section House Road for reports of a suspicious person.

As they got to the scene, they came across a woman who seemed disoriented. Deputies followed the woman to her home on Tanglewood Drive where they found a baby girl deceased inside.

Deputies confirmed the 9-month-old baby girl is the daughter of the woman in question.

Foul play is suspected in the death of the infant and an investigation has been launched by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

Investigators are consulting with the District Attorney’s Office and are awaiting autopsy results. The mother has been admitted to a local hospital at this time.
